La trasformazione del WSOP è dovuta maggiormente alla grande rilevanza acquisita dal poker online.

Negli ultimi anni, il World Series of Poker è stato interamente trasformato dal poker online. A partire dal 2004 il numero di giocatori è triplicato rispetto agli anni precedenti, questo grazie al grande numero di tornei satellite proposti dalle poker rooms online. L'obiettivo di Everest Poker è quello di inviare il maggior numero di giocatori possibili al torneo che si terrà a Las Vegas, dove nel 2005 è stato raccolto un piatto premio di oltre 50 milioni di dollari.
Anche quest'anno i più forti giocatori di livello mondiale saranno presenti e chiunque si aggiudicherà un posto al torneo, potrà scontrarsi con il Campione del Mondo Chris Ferguson, o con Mike Matusow, o altri professionisti come Jennifer Harman, Phil Ivey e Howard Lederer.
